On December 3rd the Choir of The Don Cossacks Russia & Moscow Festival Ensemble headed by a famous Dutch conductor Marcel Verhoeff gave a single charity concert for Downside Up. The concert took place within the framework of the International Day of Disabled Persons.

The concert was organised by the only in Russia Downside Up Early Intervention Centre which provides free support to over 750 families raising children with Down syndrome from 60 regions of Russia.

Downside Up exists only thanks to the donations from private individuals and funds raised during fundraising events.

This joint initiative raised USD 5500 and united about 300 people who came to listen to popular Russian folk songs and watch an unforgettable perfomance by the Choir the Don Cossacks Russia and most importantly, to help children with Down syndrome.

Bright colours of the national costumes, folk instruments, flamboyant, stately figures of the singers - this was all a presentation of the CD "A wonderful Russia". In conclusion of the concert children attending Downside Up presented flowers to the conductor and the audience rose in applause for the Choir of the Don Cossacks Russia.

The main goal of the event was to attract public attention to the problems of the disabled children and emphasize that all children equally need love and care. All the proceeds form the concert will go towards rehabilitation programmes for children with Down syndrome.

We at Downside Up would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who support us including the conductor of the Choir of the Don Cossacks Marcel Verhoeff, artistic director of the choir - Vladimir Chibaev, Evgeny Polikanin, people's artist of Russia, Moscow Festival Ensemble and the guest of the event - theatre and cinema actress Lubov Rudenko.

Our efforts can bring more care, joy and love into the lives of children
with Down syndrome!
