“Children for Children” Event

On the 21st of November Downside Up Charitable Fund is holding an event dedicated to the European Day for People with Down Syndrome

The European Down Syndrome Association (EDSA) has announced the 23rd November as the European Day for People with Down Syndrome as a part of the larger celebration of the European Year of People with Disabilities. EDSA calls all its members to arrange actions and events that can attract the attention of the society to difficulties people with Down syndrome experience, to promote inclusion and tolerance of people with disabilities.

Downside Up, a Russian – British Charity, works to improve the quality of life for children with Down syndrome. In May 2003 it became a member of EDSA

Downside Up’s activity is aimed at prevention of “social orphanhood”, rehabilitation and social adaptation of children with Down syndrome from birth to 8 years of age. Downside Up Early Intervention Centre provides psychological, educational and social support for 400 families living in Moscow, Moscow region and other Russian regions.

The idea of the “Children for Childrem” event has been supported by the Department of Women, Families and Children’s Affairs of the the Russian Ministry of Labour and Social Development. It is a charitable event suppjrted by the Moscow Committe for Public Relations.

Children with DS, their families, friends, and those who work with these children in kindergartens and schools as well as people who support the idea of inclusion are invited to take part in this event.

The main goal of the event is to attract the attention of the people to the problems children with disabilities have, and to remind them that all children are children first of all, independently on how talented or disabled they are, and that they all deserve love and care.

When children spend time together and communicate they learn to understand each other and accept differences, which is crucial for accepting people with disabilities by the society.

The programme of the “Children for Childrem” event includes:

greeting of the participants by representatives of the Department of Women, Families and Children’s Affairs of the the Russian Ministry for Labour and Social Development, Moscow Committe for Public Relations
the concert given by “DoMiSoL & Co”, children singing group
play with Maria’s Children clowns in the lobby
   presents from invited sponsors, photos

The event begins at 16:30.

The venue: Central House of Journalists, Nikitskiy bul., 8a
