For decades Russian children with Down Syndrome had no early intervention
services and their needs were ignored. That is why in 1996 Downside
Up, the Russian-British Charity, had started its daily free programmes
for Russian families that raise children with DS. In 2004 over 440
Russians kids are receiving support from Downside Up specialists.
But the need is far greater because 2000 children with Down Syndrome
are born in Russia every year, and 85% of them are given up to the
state institutions where no professional assistance exists. |

Thanks
to the generous support of Rosbuilding and Brunswick UBS, two
big corporate donors in Moscow, and European Trade System of Real
Estate Downside Up now has premises for the new Downside Up Early
Intervention Centre that will allow us to reach twice as many families
and offer training to early intervention specialists from the Russian
regions.
The 440 thousand dollars raised will be used towards reconstruction
of the ground floor and erection of the first floor, including all
construction and installation work.
We continue our work in raising funds and searching for free goods and services (furniture, flooring, decoration). We are now in the process of obtaining necessary permissions and coordinating construction plans with the authorities. Construction works are scheduled to begin in April 2005 so that in September the New Centre is ready to accept children and parents.
We still have a lot to do in our New Home: walls painting, acquisition of furniture etc. We would gratefully receive free goods and services which could reduce the cost of the work to be done.
Please join us! Only with your support we can build the most joyful Home for hundreds of children with Down syndrome in Russia. |
Over 300
private individuals, 15 companies and organizations participated in
the "New Home for Downside Up" appeal.
We are especially grateful for their generous support to:
