How fit do I need to be?
You do not have to be super fit for the Bike Ride, although you will need a good level of fitness to be able to cope with the cycling and enjoy your journey. It is important to remember this event is meant to be a ride for a good cause- not a race! A bus follows behind all of the participants during the 2 days of cycling. If a participant feels fatigue or as thou they cannot keep up with the pace of the group, we may recommend that you sit on the bus for health and safety measures. We break the 150km into two parts over a two day period.

Can I bring my children?
No children under 16 years old are allowed to participate. Participants under 18 years must have written permission from their parents to take part.

Do I need special equipment?
If you do not have a bike - no need to worry! Downside Up provides bikes and helmets for those participants who don’t have them. It is important to note that Downside Up has a limited number of bicycles, so please let us know if you require a bicycle or have your own as soon as possible. Also, for those participants with equipment you have the option of delivering your bicycle to Downside Up before 23 rd August and we will bring your items to the hotel.

What medical and safety support will there be?

Downside Up has been running this event very successfully for over 10 years. We pay very special attention to safety on the road. The GAI (traffic police) escort accompanies the cyclists during the entire route along with 2 doctors from our team.

What about insurance?
Insurance for the event is not covered in the cost. We do ask that you take out your own travel insurance/personal holiday insurance. We recommend that you contact Lidia Mokrova of The British Insurance society, 8-910-470-5358 for further details .

What will the food and accommodation be like?

Throughout the bike ride, several rest stops are made where water, fruit and snacks are provided. The cost for accommodation is included in your fee . This year, all participants will be staying at “ OKA ”, to learn more about the hotel, please visit their website at www.pansionoka.ru.

Downside Up exists only on the donations from its private and corporate benefactors and on the funds raised during charity events, such as the Bike Ride. Downside Up is proud to offer their services free to families and children which is why these events are vital to our budget. For example, $750 - $1000 pays for one child to enroll into DSU’s entire programme for one year.
